Pretend I blogged a really cute story about how my husband/wife/kids/cousins/friends would never eat anything except this dish, then let…

Meet the Team

The team is me, Cathrine Giles. I dare to ask the question: Where is my lip balm?

Going on hiatus for a bit! Going on hiatus for a bit!
Black Christmas: 3/5. A bit heavy handed on the vi Black Christmas: 3/5. A bit heavy handed on the villainy but I liked the women working together. Pretty straight forward plot — except for one aspect, we had it figured out almost right away.

It’s an okay movie but I definitely wouldn’t waste theater money on it. I mean. I already did, but I don’t suggest it for anyone else.
Be warned that there are a few non-graphic depictions of rape and rape attempts in this movie, and rape is talked about a lot.

Jumanji: The Next Level: 3/5. If you really loved Jumanji: The Next Level: 3/5. If you really loved Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, this movie is more of the same. It’s fun and not the worst way to spend two hours, but you could also just rewatch Welcome to the Jungle. The cast does a good job acting as their respective “players.” A lot of the jokes were a miss for me, but there was plenty to enjoy too.

Star Wars: Episode IX — The Rise of Skywalker: 3 Star Wars: Episode IX — The Rise of Skywalker: 3/5. This movie is about Rey and her boyfriends. It’s definitely a movie I watched. There was definitely a script that was definitely written by people.

Idk, y’all. It’s fine. It’s not bad. Some of the relationships feel like they were building on TFA since they didn’t have enough material in TLJ, and it feels a little forced. I will say this about TLJ: it did not feel like a rehash of the OG trilogy. And there’s a lot in this one that feels like a rehash. That said, there were a lot of scenes and developments and things I super enjoyed. And there’s a character that basically wears a sweater in the final act, which is a thing I’m into.

I think people will overcompensate in both loving and hating this movie.

Knives Out: 5/5. Dang. The kind of whodunnit I’v Knives Out: 5/5. Dang. The kind of whodunnit I’ve needed this year. Super fun. Very clever. I really thought I had it figured out early on but I sure did not.

I wanted to see more interactions among the characters because what we got was so good. Some scenes that were shot with different perspectives, which was well done, but could possibly have been used more effectively if only to cast more suspicions on people. The plot primarily focuses on one character as they try to navigate the seemingly impossible situation they’ve been thrust into. So I guess my main criticism is that I wanted more of everything?

Some of the dialogue seems typical of privileged people on both sides of an argument, and it was funny (?) to see that juxtaposed with the nurse’s actual experiences and concerns. I think because of the type of movie this is it was right to only touch on that dynamic because it really only served to show how awful the family really is.

Daniel Craig has the bluest eyes, and Chris Evans looks softest in sweaters. Those are facts entirely unrelated to anything, but they NEEDED to be said.
There is a surprising amount of plot-related vomit in this movie, so here’s your warning if you’re easily affected by that.

Charlie’s Angels: 4/5. This is a fun 🍿 movie! Charlie’s Angels: 4/5. This is a fun 🍿 movie! The action is good, the looks are good, the angels are good! They did a good job tying this to the existing Charlie’s Angels verse, which granted doesn’t take much.

Imo, Kristen Stewart is not a big enough actress to sell seats on her name alone, especially when this movie seems like a huge departure from her usual indie and low key post-Twilight roles. That said, she is a delight in every scene. All the actresses are! They worked so well together, and I believed them as work associates (and friends)! Solid villainy plot. I won’t say more for spoiler reasons, but it just confirms that I should never trust xxxxx xxxxxxx xxxxx.

The best part is that there wasn’t a romance (not really). Maybe potential for gals to be pals and a cute but blink-and-you’ll-miss-it flirtation but no romantic subplots here.
The soundtrack is not great. It’s eh. It’s fine.

There are several fun cameos mid-credits. No after-credits scene, as far as I’m aware (though I didn’t stay to confirm with my eyes). This should have been released in March or August. It’s weird as a November release. Anyway, I hope this movie does well enough for a sequel! More action movies starring women, please!
