I’m not running in the Dublin Marathon.

I registered for the Dublin Marathon in February. I thought that gave me plenty of time to train and increase my speed a little bit so that I wouldn’t spend seven hours to finish. Maybe six hours. Maybe even five and a half! Could I really cut that much time from my pace? I had nine months to try!

I eventually resigned myself to a seven-hour run. I couldn’t PR my half, and I was struggling to have a consistent pace during my long training runs.

As of this writing, there are 53 days until the Dublin Marathon, and I just don’t want to do it. I could do it; I could run-walk-then-mostly-walk-it. I could finish it in the seven-hour time limit. But gosh, that sounds like the worst.

Another decision I made while doing the Hamilton Night Glow run: I’m going to step back from half marathons for a while. While I appreciate the challenge, I’m not really having a fun time doing it. This doesn’t mean I’m going to stop running! I like running. Even when I complain about it, I like running. But I think 10ks are more my speed. I’m confident that I’ll get back into halfs and maybe attempt a marathon. For now though, 10ks are where it’s at for me.

Maybe I shouldn’t have included “a step back” in the title of this post. I don’t mean that negatively. But sometimes it’s what you need to do to check where you are and make sure your goals are still the same as when you made them.
